Job Summary
The Kindergarten Paraprofessional provides behavioral and academic support to individual students and small groups of students in a kindergarten classroom. This position works under the direction of the classroom teacher to reinforce instruction, support student engagement, and promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. The Kindergarten Paraprofessional assists students in developing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills while encouraging independence and classroom success.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
Provide individualized and small-group academic support under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Reinforce classroom instruction, assignments, and learning activities.
Support students in developing foundational literacy, math, communication, and classroom skills.
Provide behavioral support using positive reinforcement and established classroom strategies.
Assist students with following classroom routines, directions, and school expectations.
Help students develop appropriate social, emotional, and self-regulation skills.
Monitor student behavior and communicate concerns to the classroom teacher or appropriate school staff.
Assist with classroom transitions, arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned activities.
Support students with completing classroom work and remaining engaged in learning.
Prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized learning environment.
Collaborate with the classroom teacher and school staff to support student progress.
Maintain confidentiality of student information.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and move throughout the classroom and school building.
Ability to work at a child’s level and assist students with classroom activities.
Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to respond appropriately to student safety and behavioral needs.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s degree, completion of at least two years of college, or paraprofessional qualification preferred.
Previous experience working with young children or in a school setting is preferred.
Experience providing academic, behavioral, or small-group support preferred.
Ability to work effectively with kindergarten-aged students.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to follow directions and collaborate with teachers and school staff.
Patience, flexibility, dependability, and a commitment to student success.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
