Job Summary

The Kindergarten Paraprofessional provides behavioral and academic support to individual students and small groups of students in a kindergarten classroom. This position works under the direction of the classroom teacher to reinforce instruction, support student engagement, and promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. The Kindergarten Paraprofessional assists students in developing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills while encouraging independence and classroom success.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties

• Provide individualized and small-group academic support under the direction of the classroom teacher.

• Reinforce classroom instruction, assignments, and learning activities.

• Support students in developing foundational literacy, math, communication, and classroom skills.

• Provide behavioral support using positive reinforcement and established classroom strategies.

• Assist students with following classroom routines, directions, and school expectations.

• Help students develop appropriate social, emotional, and self-regulation skills.

• Monitor student behavior and communicate concerns to the classroom teacher or appropriate school staff.

• Assist with classroom transitions, arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned activities.

• Support students with completing classroom work and remaining engaged in learning.

• Prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized learning environment.

• Collaborate with the classroom teacher and school staff to support student progress.

• Maintain confidentiality of student information.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and move throughout the classroom and school building.

• Ability to work at a child’s level and assist students with classroom activities.

• Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to respond appropriately to student safety and behavioral needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Associate’s degree, completion of at least two years of college, or paraprofessional qualification preferred.

• Previous experience working with young children or in a school setting is preferred.

• Experience providing academic, behavioral, or small-group support preferred.

• Ability to work effectively with kindergarten-aged students.

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

• Ability to follow directions and collaborate with teachers and school staff.

• Patience, flexibility, dependability, and a commitment to student success.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
